What a Warehouse Storage Trailer Is.

Direct answer A warehouse storage trailer is a steel dry van spotted at your dock door that works like extra warehouse floor. RMA Fleet rents 28, 45, 48 and 53 foot trailers, delivered and set by our own driver the same day when you call by noon, Monday to Friday, anywhere within about 100 miles of West Chester, Ohio. Every rental has a 3-month minimum, then runs month to month.

It is the same trailer that runs freight over the road, parked instead of pulled. That is why it fits your dock, your forklift and your pallets without any change to how your team works. For on-site storage that is not tied to a dock, see our commercial storage trailer rental page.

How a trailer works at your dock doors

Spotted at dock height, the trailer floor lines up with your dock, a dock plate bridges the gap, and a forklift drives straight in. Backed to a door, it works like forty more feet of building: dock plate down, forklift in, full pallets to the nose. No ramp and no hand-loading. The detail on doors, plates and approach is in our guide to dock-height loading.

Who It Fits

Who rents warehouse storage trailers

Distribution centers and 3PLs

Adding a dock door's worth of capacity for a season, when a surge shows up faster than racking does.

Manufacturers

Finished goods waiting on a ship date, raw material bought ahead, and line-side staging. More in our post on storage trailers for manufacturers.

Retail back rooms

Seasonal stock, displays and fixtures that need a dry, locked home next to the building through the peak.

Capacity

How much fits

Think in pallet positions, not cubic feet. Counts below are standard 48x40 pallets on the floor, single stacked.

28 foot trailerAbout 12 to 14 pallets, depending on orientation and whether you leave an aisle
45 foot trailerAbout 22 pallets loaded straight
48 foot trailerAbout 24 pallets loaded straight
53 foot trailer26 pallets loaded straight, about 450 square feet of floor

Turning pallets and double stacking stable loads raise these counts. The full math, including when stacking is safe, is in our pallet math guide, and our size guide helps you pick.

A trailer or more warehouse space?

A trailer is overflow on your terms: a 3-month minimum, then month to month, with no long-term lease and nothing to build out. It sits at your own dock, so the freight never leaves your site and nobody drives across town to reach it. When the peak passes, we pick it up. Planning for the holiday surge? Read our Q4 inventory overflow guide, and for how a trailer compares with renting a unit, see storage trailer vs self storage.

Moving freight between your buildings

Overflow often has to move. Our own trucks run shuttle and dock-to-dock transfers between your buildings and out to customers, so one company handles both the storage and the moves. See local trucking and how our dock-to-dock shuttle runs work.

Where we deliver

Call by noon, Monday through Friday, and same day delivery is the standard anywhere inside our 100 mile radius of West Chester: southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and southeastern Indiana. That includes Cincinnati, Dayton, Northern Kentucky, Fairfield and West Chester. See every area we serve, and how delivery works step by step.

Yes. Every trailer we rent is a dry van that sits at dock height. Spotted at your door, the trailer floor lines up with your dock, a dock plate bridges the gap, and a forklift drives straight in. No ramp needed.
It depends on the size. A 28 foot trailer holds about 12 to 14 standard 48x40 pallets on the floor, a 45 holds about 22, a 48 about 24, and a 53 holds 26 loaded straight. Turning pallets or double stacking stable loads raises those counts.
Every rental has a 3-month minimum, then runs month to month for as long as you keep the trailer. There is no long-term lease.
Usually, yes. Same-day delivery is our standard anywhere inside our 100-mile service area around West Chester, Ohio when you call by noon, Monday to Friday.
Yes. Our own trucks run shuttle and dock-to-dock transfers, so you can move loaded freight between your buildings or out to a customer with the same company that rents you the trailer.
No. We run dry vans only, not refrigerated or heated equipment. Treat the inside like unheated warehouse space: dry and secure, but unconditioned. If your product needs temperature control, a trailer is the wrong box and we will tell you so.
It is a lockable steel box. Our security walkthrough covers the locks worth buying, what seals do and do not do, and where to place the trailer on your lot.
